How to Hire a Qualified Personal Trainer
Health and fitness are among the trendier topics of the day — and people are spending more money than ever to achieve them. One question, though, is whether the investment in a personal trainer is worth the money. If you have specific fitness goals that you are not meeting on your own, a personal trainer may be well worth the investment. We generally don’t try to provide our own medical care, repair our own cars, or handle our own legal matters. Unless we are uniquely qualified, we hire professionals to do those things for us. Hiring a trainer is no different. And consider this fact: on average, people who hire personal trainers increase their income by $7,000 within a year of hiring the trainer.
So what is the first step to finding a qualified personal fitness trainer? Start by asking around. Ask the people you know who work with trainers. Check the phone book. Inquire at your gym. Check the listings in fitness magazines.
But getting referrals is only the first step. Next, you must do some research and interview prospective trainers. Trainers’ fees run anywhere from $40 to $300 per hour, so you want to be sure you’re hiring a qualified expert who will actually provide good advice and training in exchange for your financial investment. As with most things, you get what you pay for — so you don’t want to go with the least expensive person just because they are affordable. But likewise, a high fee does not automatically make someone qualified. Make sure you ask as many questions as necessary to determine that the person you hire is knowledgeable and will be able to help you achieve your specific weight and fitness goals.
Things to Look For in a Qualified Trainer
§ Check their credentials. You want a trainer with a degree in health, nutrition, Kinesiology, biomechanics or exercise physiology.
§ Look for personal training certifications. These are some of the better ones:
C.H.E.K – Developed by Paul Chek – Corrective High-Performance Exercise Kinesiologist http://www.chekinstitute.com(NOTE: This would be my recommended certification to look for, as I regard them as the best for information and education in this field.)
NASM – National Academy of Sports Medicine http://www.nasm.org
NSCA – National Strength and Conditioning Association
I.S.S.A. – International Sports Sciences Association – a very good certification for a beginning trainer http://www.issaonline.com
§ Some less impressive certifications include:
CSCS – Offered by NSCA – Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist – a very good accreditation, but also outdated
ACSM – great for clinical work, but not very practical in real life http://www.acsm.org
ACE – avoid this one. The trainer doesn’t really have to prove any knowledge about training to obtain this certification. http://www.acefitness.org
§ Make sure the certifications are current and that the trainer is knowledgeable about the latest trends in the fields of nutrition, fitness and health. Good trainers continuously educate themselves by reading books about diet, nutrition, exercise, health, sleep and any other topics related to the human body and its functions.
§ One note about certifications: There are many trainers without certifications or degrees (or whose certifications are not the best ones) who are still extremely qualified. However, it is important to determine their level of expertise and education. I sell a sample test you may give a prospective trainer to help determine whether they meet the same criteria a certified trainer should meet.
§ Be certain that the trainer is up-to-date on CPR and first aid.
§ Determine that the trainer has a willingness to learn and is open to new ideas in training and nutrition. Avoid anyone with a one-size-fits-all approach. Every person’s psychology, biochemistry, muscle imbalances, hormones, etc. are unique and react differently. You want a program that is tailored to your specific body type and weight or training goals.
§ The trainer should have a good physique and they should have their own fitness goals. The trainer should most definitely practice what they preach.
§ Ask for testimonials and references regarding their training background.
Things a Qualified Personal Trainer Should Offer
§ Professionalism. Your trainer should have an attitude of professionalism at all times. They must be on time, awake, and giving you their 100 percent undivided attention during your scheduled session. Run, don’t walk, from any trainer who makes or takes phone calls, talks to friends or gives you less than their full attention during your session. If your trainer works at a gym, determine whether this is their career — or if they are simply working there for the free gym membership.
§ Motivation. A key role of the trainer is that they motivate you. This is largely what you are paying them for. Face it. If you could motivate yourself to do this work on your own, you wouldn’t need a trainer. Still, your trainer should not be a commanding drill sergeant — they should offer an appropriate balance between motivation and compassion.
§ Accountability. Another part of the trainer’s job is to keep you accountable. The trainer should hold you responsible for being on time, or canceling with advance notice. If you arrive for your session 15 minutes late or you cancel without 24 hours’ notice, you will be charged. As the client, it is your job to keep your word and to allow the trainer to get you results. This means you must arrive on time and ready to work out.
§ Energy. Your trainer should be upbeat and energetic. If they don’t have any energy, how can they possibly get you fired up to work out and sweat?
§ Results. A trainer’s primary job is to help you obtain RESULTS. If you listen to your trainer and follow their advice, and you still are not happy with your results or the way you feel, fire them and hire another trainer. However, if you don’t listen to your trainer, you cannot fault them if you do not achieve results.
§ Focus on your health. Your health should be your trainer’s priority even if getting fit isn’t your first priority. Whether you’re training for a marathon or trying to achieve a body builder’s physique, your trainer must keep your health at the forefront of their concerns.
§ Success. The trainer must be committed to your success, sometimes even more committed to it than you are.
§ Training sessions. Your trainer may offer a variety of packages, including buddy, family, group and corporate sessions. Do not hesitate to ask for what you want from your trainer.
Things Quality Fitness Training Should Include
§ Measurements. Before you begin a fitness program, measurements should be taken of body fat, weight, circumferences, and blood pressure. Tests should be done to determine postural analysis and muscle imbalances. Progress must be tracked.
§ A PAR-Q (Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire) should be administered and a medical history taken, so the trainer is aware of any physical conditions that could inhibit your training or potentially injure you. The trainer must know beforehand of any and all medical conditions and medications in order to address your personal health concerns and keep your safety a number one priority.
§ One-hour sessions, three times a week. For the most efficient training, sessions should last one hour and include warm-up, weight training (the best bang for your buck for fat loss and muscle gain), stretching, and cool-down. Your trainer should recommend three sessions a week to achieve your ultimate fitness goals. If you work out only once a week, you cannot expect quick or quality results. (In the event that you only are able to work with a trainer one time per week, it will become your responsibility to work out the other two times a week on your own. But don’t try to fool yourself. If you know you won’t work out on your own, make the investment to work three times a week with a trainer.)
§ Workout log. Your trainer must record everything you do with them. Records are extremely important for the trainer, as they will track your progress and success.
§ Variety. You should never have to do the same boring workout all the time. If that is the case, get a new trainer. Your trainer should be smart enough to design innovative programs to keep you motivated. That is a key aspect of their job.
§ Undivided attention. You, the client, should be the most important person in your trainer’s life for the length of your session. You deserve their undivided attention and utmost respect.
§ Sweat. Working out isn’t supposed to be easy, but neither is it supposed to kill someone. Your trainer should push you as close to the edge as possible — and, yes, you should work up a healthy sweat in every workout. Remember, you can’t get fit without getting funky. However, some workout days will be lighter than others because no one can achieve peak performance everyday. It is up to your trainer to get the most out of you every time they work with you.
§ Proper form. During a session, your posture and biomechanics should be more important to the trainer than being a rep-counting cheerleader. You, the client, should count the reps while your trainer watches carefully to make sure you are performing the exercises properly and corrects any deviations in your form.
§ Directives for times outside the training sessions. In addition to one-on-one training, your trainer must recommend a proper meal plan and encourage you to perform regular cardiovascular exercise to help burn those extra calories and shed those extra layers of fat.
Things You Should Bring to Your Training Regimen
§ Specific goals. Ask your trainer to help you clarify and prioritize your fitness goals. Make sure your trainer is willing to help you achieve them in the most efficient way possible.
§ Be willing to work. Don’t hire a trainer and then simply go through the motions. Listen carefully and follow your trainer’s advice. (A note to trainers: If your client doesn’t listen to what you say, FIRE them, because they will only discredit you and your reputation. You might hesitate to terminate a client relationship because you feel bad or you need the money, but continuing to work with them will only hinder your long-term success.)
§ Ask questions. If you don’t understand something, ask your trainer about it. That’s why they’re there. And above all, make sure you ask for what you want.
§ Most importantly be honest with yourself and your trainer. If you didn’t do your cardio or eat correctly that week, be honest. The trainer knows you’re human, and that you will likely have lapses. Remember, if you could do it alone, you wouldn’t have hired someone to coach you in the first place. It doesn’t help either of you in reaching your goals if you lie or try to cover up. Your trainer will know you’re lying anyway if you are not getting in better shape, you’re not losing body fat, or your stamina is not improving. Your trainer is not necessarily responsible for your lack of progress — this is a two-way street.
§ Note: Lack of results when you are working diligently and following all of your trainer’s instructions could be an indicator that their methods or eating plans are misguided or uninformed. Use your discretion — and get a new trainer if the lack of progress continues even after you’ve shared your concerns with your trainer.
Things to Avoid
§ Glitz and glamour. Don’t hire someone simply because they (or their studio) look good. Make sure they can back up their appearance with knowledge and expertise.
§ Steroids, diuretics, and any other harmful drugs. A trainer should promote health and fitness. Drugs of any kind do not belong in your body. Don’t train with a big, buff guy (a muscle-head) just because they look the part. Their appearance alone doesn’t mean they know anything about proper training methods. Investigate a trainer’s background and personal training history before you hire them.
Remember, hiring a personal trainer is an intuitive process that is unique to each individual. Continue to interview people until you feel confident you’ve found a trainer who will be able to help you meet your personal fitness goals.
Ask for references and check with the trainer’s current clients to determine whether they enjoy working with that person. Ask the trainer as many questions as it takes to help you gauge how compatible you are with them. The training relationship is a unique partnership — and for maximal success, you need to find the best partner possible.

Treadmills: Learn from a personal Trainer

Treadmills: What to Look for and How to Use for the Best Results

by Scott White

Is Running Good or Bad for Your Body?

Basic human mechanics and anatomy suggest that we are upright creatures designed to walk and run. So how can something like jogging be bad for you? The lowdown concerning running on a treadmill or running outside is that, yes, running can be too stressful — if your body isn’t prepared to run.

Most of us our not structurally built to run long distances. For that matter, most of us are not structurally sound to run at all. We now live in an environment where we sit all day, rarely moving at all. We develop poor posture and bad mechanics, and then we expect to easily run when we need to.

I hate to break it to you, but you can’t just jump right into something when your body is so far out of alignment and physically screwed up. You must start building your body up structurally, so it can handle the stress you put on it.

Running on treadmills or outdoors can carry great health benefits, but running long distance is a lot like typing all day without breaks. It creates too much repetitive movement, typically overstressing the body and causing injury.

Our bodies are not designed to do too much of any repetition, and that includes running long distances. Did you realize that’s how the marathon actually got its name? At the end of the Trojan War, a soldier ran to the town of Marathon to announce the end of the battles. The distance he ran happened to be 26.3 miles — and as soon as he got there and make his big announcement, he DIED. All that running was too much stress for his body to handle.

I’m not saying that you are physically incapable of running a marathon, but no one’s body is really designed to run long distances. For one thing, when you run long distances, your body eats up your protein (muscle) for energy as it prepares the body to store fat.

Creating a Good Treadmill Regimen

Treadmills are a great source of cardio exercise because they allow you to run indoors on a padded surface. A treadmill can benefit your body in many ways. This is no to say that running outdoors is not beneficial. Any movement is almost always better than no movement.

Just as with any exercise program, when beginning a treadmill program, start slowly — you don’t want to kill yourself. Begin by walking consistently for 30 minutes. Once you achieve 30 minutes, note the “distance” you walked, and set a goal to beat that distance next time.

As you continue to increase your distance, you will soon hit a point where you can’t really improve any further. At that time, increase the incline to create an uphill workout; then improve on that distance. Once you feel accomplished there, begin jogging, and then running.

For the greatest effect, run at intervals on your treadmill. This means running very quickly for 60 seconds or less — when you stop, you will likely feel like you are hyperventilating or gasping for air. Don’t panic — this is exactly the effect you should expect with this type of high-intensity exercise. Walk for up to 60 seconds until you recover, and then repeat this process 10 to 20 times. Your goal should be to reduce the recovery time with each repetition.

This use of a treadmill will burn many calories and get fat to fly right off your body. Interval training allows you to achieve much more effective fat loss than the traditional training method of running for long durations at you target heart rate and it will get you leaner more quickly.

You must be structurally sound and in fairly good shape to handle this treadmill program, because it is quite intense and increases the heart rate very quickly. This is the regimen a sprinter (low body fat and lots of muscle) would follow. Treadmills are a great way to get in your workout during the extreme heat of a desert summer — or during long cold winters where the low temps actually drop below 40 degrees.

What to Look for in a Treadmill

Before purchasing your treadmill, you must know how much and what type of training you will perform on it. Lower cost treadmills tend to break down quickly if you weigh more than 180 pounds or use them for more than walking and light jogging. A heavier person requires a higher-end treadmill because of the force they produce and the high demands they place on the treadmill’s motor and belt. Lower end treadmills simply can’t handle that kind of abuse. For older ladies who just want to perform some light walking, a lower quality, low-cost treadmill should be fine.

Treadmills range in price from a couple hundred bucks to a few thousand dollars. As with most things, you get what you pay for. If you want a higher level of conditioning, purchase a higher-end treadmill. In the long run, spending the extra thousand dollars will get you a treadmill that will last 10 to 20 years, compared with spending several hundred dollars and getting one that will last only a few years. The choice is yours — invest your money wisely.

If your regular cardio schedule requires at least three sessions weekly (and if you want it to be effective, it should!), purchase a higher quality treadmill that will endure your constant use. Before you buy, commit to putting in the time and doing the work, because  this is the only way you are going to see results. If you don’t make a commitment before you make your purchase, all you will have gained is a bulky, expensive clothes rack.

Spend the extra money to purchase a machine with a 2 to 2.5 HP continuous motor and a heavy-duty belt. Make sure the treadmill you purchase has at least a 10 percent incline and a 10 mph speed setting. Professional athletes will want an even higher-end treadmill — preferably one that will advance to at least 15 mph with an incline of 20 percent or higher.

The treadmill should come with plenty of programs. While not necessary to the functionality, they can make your workouts more fun by allowing you to alter the programs to create a different feel or change of pace. Your treadmill should have a minimum 10-year parts warranty, a minimum two-year labor warranty and a lifetime warranty on the deck.

Avoid purchasing a treadmill that folds up, as these treadmills tend to be less durable and generally experience more functional problems. This, of course, means you will need to commit some space for it in your home, office, or wherever the treadmill will live.

Breakdowns by Brand

BodyGuard treadmills are great for commercial or home use. They are long-lasting and of great value. The strong base and solid suspension of the running surface offers a great feel and comfort. Bodyguard treadmills get my vote for home or commercial use. Click here to purchase a BodyGuard treadmill.

Frappier Acceleration Program and its high-tech treadmill that boasts a whopping speed setting of 28 mph and an incline of 40% is my top pick for professional athletes who want the edge in speed training. Though treadmills will help you develop great biomechanics, it is a must that you also train on regular running surfaces because this has the most carry-over to your athletic performance on the track and/or field.

Life Fitness treadmills are built to last by people who enjoy running. They have a patented deck surface that provides excellent stability and support for your joints. Life Fitness treadmills are great for club or home use. Most commercial gyms use Life Fitness treadmills. They have many different versions to fit your budget and health needs. Click here to purchase a Life Fitness treadmill.

NordicTrack has many different versions of treadmills, including a commercial machine that can reach a 15 percent incline with a 60-inch belt for that extra running room. They also have lower end models that can provide a good amount of use.

Precore has high-end, high quality treadmills with excellent suspension that reduces the stress to your joints and back; they also offer many great programs, including a quick-start program to get you moving right away. Precore treadmills are great for your gym or home. To purchase a Precore treadmill, click here.

Star Trac treadmills have been around for many years and are quite reliable. They provide many programs and a great running deck. Star Trac machines are widely used in commercial gyms around the world and have a reputation for being a higher quality treadmill.

Woodway offers a very high-tech treadmill with a state-of-the-art running surface; it is designed with rubber slats instead of a belt. In my opinion, this is the best running surface of all treadmills. The top speed setting is 10-12 mph and it has an incline of 10-15 percent. Woodway also carries a sports performance treadmill that can reach 20 mph and as much as a 20 percent incline. Woodway treadmills are like running on clouds — smooth, soft and with a great feel. Click here to purchase a Woodway treadmill.

There are many other great brands of treadmills, but once you decide to purchase a high-end treadmill, you can’t really go wrong. My best advice is to try them out, though you won’t really be able to notice any major difference when running on a good quality treadmill — with the exception of a few like Woodway treadmills. The rubber slats used and higher-end suspension systems used by Woodway and some of the other high-end brands clearly set them apart.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You can get great results with a treadmill running program, but you can get even better results and more fat loss through weight training. To find out how to start a successful weight training program, click here.

Air Purification

ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY IN AIR PURIFICATION

We provide you with the highest technology in air purification. We ask that you take your time and read this information.

Facts about Indoor Air Quality

  • According to the American College of Allergies, 50% of all illness is aggravated or caused by polluted indoor air.
  • The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) themselves declare that indoor air is anywhere from 2 to 10 times more hazardous than outdoor air.
  • The EPA also warns us that the indoor air quality is the United States' number one environmental health problem.
  • Today's homes and buildings are built air-tight, and contain a long list of pollution sources. As a result, natural air-cleansing agents such as ozone and negative ions are kept out, while contaminants are kept in.
  • A recent study found that the allergen level in super-insulated homes is 200% higher than it is in ordinary homes.
  • According to Scientific America, a baby crawling on the floor inhales the equivalent of 4 cigarettes a day, as a result of the out-gassing of carpets, molds, mildews, fungi, dust mites, etc.
  • Most people spend well over 90% of their time indoors. In which case, indoor air is going to impact our health far more than outdoor air.

The EPA informs us that 6 out of 10 homes and buildings are "sick", meaning they are hazardous to your health to occupy as a result of airborne pollutants.

How to start : Use the following systems and recommendations to clean and purify your air quality in the home and office. These systems will help eliminate mold, airborne toxins, chemicals, odors, bacteria, fungus, pollen and other contaminants. We recommend a number of different approaches to maximize your health:

1. XJ-2100 Ionic Air Purifier – Even in normal indoor environments, there is a high level of pollutants that can aggravate the respiratory system, especially if you have asthma, allergies, or any other respiratory problem. Our Surround Air Ionizer purification system will thoroughly and economically purify most or all of your home, without the risk of generating excessive ozone. The high density of negative ions produced by Surround Air Ionizers will effectively remove many of the floating particles in the air, most of which are not visible to the naked eye. Even most of the airborne bacteria is removed since their primary means of locomotion is by floating dust particles.

2. XJ-3000D Air PurifierXJ-3000D Air Purifier – Global Healing Center offers the most effective air purifier for the cost! Our Surround Air XJ-3000D purifier is perfect for home or work air purification. It is a HEPA & ionic air purifier with germicidal UV light which helps with dust, smoke, allergies, asthma, viruses, and odors. No other air purifier combines these leading technologies: air ionizer, germicidal UV Light, HEPA air filter, activated carbon air filter, optional/programmable ozone production, inexpensive air filter replacement, clean and easy air filter replacement, and quiet and powerful fan.

XJ-3000D Air Purifier Surround Air XJ-3000D Purifier
Vs.
"Ionic BreezeTM Quadra" Purifiers

Now let me drop a note to how much we love our [XJ-3000] air cleaner! It is more effective than Sharper Image's Quadra. I am more than satisfied. I am delighted beyond belief as to how well this product works. I have had the most expensive hepa filters and none compare to your product. I am so lucky to have found you. - C. McElrath, New York

Ion Output

The Surround Air "Multi-Tech" XJ-3000D is a true air ionizer that produces air-cleaning negative ions, while the Ionic Breeze Quadra air purifiers produce only very low amounts. The air-cleaning benefits of negative ions are well understood and established in the scientific community. The Multi-Tech XJ-3000D contains two high-density negative ion generators.

Air Filters versus Metal Collector Plates

The Ionic Breeze uses a metal collector plate grid to collect particles, while the XJ-3000D ionic air filter uses a HEPA and activated carbon combination air filter system. Since the XJ-3000D uses a fan to draw air in, it collects far more particulate. Plus, the HEPA and activated carbon room air filters are far more absorbent than metal collection plates, preventing trapped particles from becoming recirculated into the air.

Fan versus No Fan

The Ionic Breeze is fan-less, making it virtually silent. The XJ-3000D uses a fan that is fairly quiet (especially on the low setting), making it effective at drawing a high volume of particulate into its cartridge of air filters. The fan also circulates the negative ions much more thoroughly throughout a room or area compared to a fan-less ionic air purifier.

Germicidal UV Light Purification

The Multi-Tech XJ-3000D from Surround Air now offers a germicidal UV lamp to destroy germs, viruses, bacteria and other microorganisms. The Ionic Breeze Quadra does not offer this added germicidal protection, but the Ionic Breeze GP does. The Ionic Breeze GP is priced at $499.

Ozone Control

Both the XJ-3000D ionic air filter and the Ionic Breeze produce ozone. Ozone has air cleaning ability, but it can also cause a strong, bleach-like smell, which is not always wanted. With the XJ-3000D, the ozone can be completely turned off without having to disable the negative ions, or the air filtration for that matter. In order to disable the ozone in the Ionic Breeze, it has to be turned off, although it produces only very low levels of ozone.

The ozone output of the XJ-3000D can also be set to a significantly higher level than what the Ionic Breeze can create, making it more effective at removing odors when needed.

Cost

MG III Whole House Unit Wellness Water Media Guard

Imagine having spring quality water everywhere - wherever and whenever you want!

Would your family enjoy the benefits of Wellness water on every tap - for bathing, drinking, cooking and even watering the garden?

The Wellness MG III is without a doubt the World's premium water filtration technology - designed for people who demand the best and understand the value of investing in their families' health.

Cartridge Free + Extra long life = Superior Savings

The Wellness MG III is a permanent filter designed to last up to ten years without maintenance. The enhancement media will last for a lifetime while the carbon section is replaced, at minimal cost, approximately once every eight to ten years.

The Wellness MG III is a premium system designed most residential homes on municipal water.

Installation

The Wellness MG III is installed at the incoming main and treats all water coming into the home and garden. Installation must be performed by a licensed plumber and takes between one to two hours normally.

Automatic cold water backwashing

Featuring automatic timer controlled backwashing, the Wellness MG III units backwash themselves once per week, usually while you are asleep, and are truly a set-and-forget solution. Many users choose to reticulate the waste backwash water onto their garden or return it to their rainwater tank for use as grey water.

By treating all your water you will gain a host of additional household benefits whilst enjoying the unique taste and purity of Wellness water.

In the laundry

Your clothes are protected from the harsh bleaching effect of chlorine which fades colors. Black garments will stay black and colors will retain their vibrancy for much longer. The extra 'wetness' means you can use less detergent, leading to substantial savings for your pocket while contributing to a healthier, cleaner environment.

Deodorizes and freshens

The natural antioxidant and bio-static properties of Wellness systems helps to remove odors from the atmosphere. Simply spraying or leaving open containers of Wellness water in refrigerators reduces unwanted odors to a minimum.

Improved cleaning and hygiene

The Wellness MG III is extremely effective at removing unwanted residues like pesticides, bacteria and dirt from surfaces such as fruits, vegetables, floors, dishes, glassware and cooking utensils. The bio-static properties help to suppress bacterial growth on surfaces without the use of harmful chemicals.

Reduces scale

Hard water scale on heating elements shortens their life and increases energy costs. At normal hardness levels (less than 200 ppm) the Wellness MG III reduces this build-up and actively removes it from pipes, fittings and appliances.

Hot water

While all other filters use synthetic materials such as plastic, nylon, paper, and polymers that are damaged by hot water, the Wellness Filter® is made from all natural media that can filter both hot and cold water.

This feature not only increases the efficiency of the backwashing process but allows us to offer you the unique pleasure and benefits that are experienced only by bathing or showering in Wellness water. Did you know you will absorb and inhale more toxins in a 3 minute shower than you would from drinking over 12 litres of unfiltered water? Find out why, for perfect health, you should always use a shower or bath filter to remove chlorines and other contaminants.

Most physicians agree that the most important prescription for good health and nutrition is to properly hydrate the body with pure, clean water. Water is the essence of life on Earth and sufficient hydration is essential for the proper functioning of all life as we know it. Along with the thousands of doctors who use and recommend the Wellness Filter® in Japan, several hospitals have outfitted their entire facilities with commercial sized Wellness Filters® (Appendix D – Installations). The Wellness FilterÒ has been measured to change the physical characteristics of the water (e.g., surface tension, reduction-oxidation potential, and solubility). The result is a fresh, enhanced water that is engineered to emulate the famous Hunza water in Pakistan.

After over seventeen years of use and testing in Japan, there is a substantial accumulation of reports, data, studies and experience regarding the benefits and observed effects of water treated by the Wellness Filter®. The health benefits and observations referenced were obtained by drinking Wellness Filter® water and/or from external bathing/washing. The maximum benefits were obtained when patients followed a specific drinking protocol, which immediately follows this section.

Drinking Protocol – After several years of hydration studies, which included the optimum amount of water to ingest and the schedule for ingestion, a specific protocol was developed. This protocol involved drinking approximately 12 ounces of freshly prepared water immediately upon rising and thirty (30) minutes before each meal (as opposed to drinking it with their meal). Subjects were directed to drink 2 to 3 additional 12 ounce portions of water between breakfast and lunch and then again between lunch and dinner. A final portion of treated water was ingested approximately 2 hours after the last meal of the day. Water temperature (i.e., room temperature versus iced) was left to the individual taste of the subject.

Bathing/Washing Protocol – When studying the effects of the water on specific dermatological conditions such as eczema and acne, maximum effect was observed when the subject washed the affected area with a mild cleansing soap and treated water two times per day and just prior to bedtime. Severely affected areas were treated with a compress of warm treated water for approximately 15 minutes twice per day or by soaking in a bath for 15 minutes.

Summary of Japanese Studies:

The Wellness Filter® and the beneficial effect it has on water have been studied by the Japanese Ministry of Health, several US and Japanese universities, and by independent physicians during the past several years. Most studies have focused on either the observed effect of a specific hydration schedule (i.e.,drinking) or on the dermatological effects of bathing/washing with treated water. Although controlled clinical studies have been less frequent, there have been numerous case studies performed in the area of: cancer research, diabetes, gastroenterology, dermatology, nutrition and internal medicine. In addition, the filter has been evaluated in weight loss and fitness training programs. A number of beneficial results have been observed, some of which were directly measurable such as the reduction of certain immune disorders while others were more subjective such as an increase in personal energy, endurance and a heightened sense of well being. Results were the most reproducible when a specific ingestion or bathing protocol was followed.

Observed effects resulting from drinking and/or bathing in Wellness Filter® water can be summarized into several categories:

¤ Digestion & assimilation of nutrients – Users of the treated water were observed to digest their food more quickly and thoroughly than subjects using untreated water. Treated water has been shown to assist the body in achieving a natural alkaline state. Nutritional supplements have been shown to be transported into the blood stream faster than with untreated water. At the cellular level, osmotic pressure is reduced and the transport of biochemical reactants across cell membranes is increased.[1]

¤ Waste elimination – virtually all subjects were observed to adjust to a more frequent waste elimination schedule and that bowel movements were easy without experiencing diarrhea. Stool
specimens were observed to be significantly more digested than subjects consuming untreated water.

¤ Gastrointestinal disorders
